The City of North Tonawanda will host its annual Arbor Day celebration at 10 a.m. Friday, April 25, in Payne Park.

North Tonawanda has officially achieved Tree City USA status – an achievement that reflects the city's ongoing investment in tree planting and care. This national recognition, presented by the Arbor Day Foundation, is awarded to cities that meet high standards for tree care and community involvement. These include maintaining a tree board or department, enacting a community tree ordinance, committing financial resources to forestry efforts, and holding an annual Arbor Day observance.

This designation is not only a milestone but a symbol of the city’s dedication to promoting environmental health, civic pride, and long-term planning for its public landscapes.

In addition to this recognition, the City of North Tonawanda gratefully acknowledges AMVETS Post 26 for its generous donation, which directly supports tree-planting efforts throughout the community. Its contribution helps enhance local parks, neighborhoods and public spaces – benefiting residents today and for generations to come.

The Arbor Day ceremony will include a formal tree planting by the Parks & Recreation Department, joined by local officials and community members.

For more information, or if any individual, business or organization would like to contribute to North Tonawanda’s tree-planting efforts, contact the mayor’s office.
