In recognition of May being Mental Health Awareness Month, the Mental Health Association in Niagara County is having a meat raffle fundraiser at St. Johnsburg Firehall, 7165 Ward Road, North Tonawanda. The event will take place Saturday, May 10. Doors open at 5:45 p.m., with the first draw at 6:30 p.m.
“The more work we do, it seems the more work we need to do,” MHA in Niagara County’s Executive Director Daniel Colpoys said. “The rates of mental health disabilities are rising, especially among youth, and the statistics are staggering: 1 in 5 U.S. adults experience mental illness each year, 1 in 6 U.S. youth aged 6-17 experience a mental health disorder each year, and suicide is the second-leading cause of death among people aged 10-14. So, we appreciate the community’s support in helping us raise funds to continue to provide mental health programming to our county’s residents and their families. And special thanks to Niagara County Legislator Chris Robins and Zajac Funeral Home for their generous sponsorships”
