Artpark & Company Press Release & Graphic

“The Flying Dutchman” will be performed in the Artpark Mainstage Theater on Saturday, Sept. 13, at 3 p.m. It previously was scheduled for 7 p.m.

Richard Wagner’s “The Flying Dutchman” will be performed in its original German with English supertitles inside the Artpark Mainstage, 450 S. Fourth St., Lewiston.

This electrifying production features Metropolitan Opera star Michael Chioldi, joined by internationally acclaimed opera luminaries Marjorie Owens, Daniel Sumegi and Robert Stahley, with rising talents Emily Skilling and Jason Garcia-Kakuk. They will perform alongside the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and the Buffalo Philharmonic Chorus in this semi-staged production, under the baton of Grammy Award-winning conductor Gil Rose, who brings Wagner’s stormy score vividly to life.

This beloved opera tells the haunting tale of a sea captain cursed to roam the oceans for eternity. His only hope of salvation lies in the selfless love of a woman willing to sacrifice herself for him. Once every seven years, the Dutchman is allowed to come ashore in search of such a bride. His path crosses with Senta, a woman who seems to understand – and perhaps even share in – his tragic fate.

The show will be performed in three acts, with two intermissions.

This opera is presented by Artpark and is supported in part by M&T Bank, The Cullen Foundation, The Baird Foundation, Oliver G. and Sarah Bauman Fund for the Arts administered by the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo, Wilfred and Joan Larson Fund administered by the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo & The Stenclik Family Charitable Fund.

Tickets are available for purchase online at ticketmaster.com or the Artpark box office.

Additional 2025 events and programs at Artpark currently on sale include: Alison Krauss & Union Station featuring Jerry Douglas (Sept. 21) and Vance Joy (Sept. 26).
