Team captain Lisa Lannon is flanked by teammates Michael Vitch and Peter Coppins, as they celebrate the triumphant moment when they captured this year’s “Lewiston Jeopardy” championship at the Bella Rose Winery. Always persevering and never giving up, this marked the squad’s first victory after years of previous attempts to win the crown.
The team, sponsored by Stuart Sports, jumped to the lead after the final “Jeopardy” clue, which read, “In the Fall, the Niagara River attracts more species of this creature than anywhere else in the world.” The champions came up with the correct answer, “What are seagulls."
“Lewiston Jeopardy” is the premiere "fun”draising event for the Historical Association of Lewiston and mirrors the iconic TV game show format, complete with buzzers, categories, and a nail-biting “Final Jeopardy” round. Held each year to support local history preservation efforts, the competition draws community leaders and enthusiasts alike, fostering camaraderie while raising funds for educational programs, exhibits, and archival work at the Lewiston Museum.
This year's showdown featured an impressive lineup of contestants, including Mayor Anne Welch, Vic Eydt, Russell Piper, Sandy Blackwell Yates, Kathy Harold and Ken Slaugenhoupt. The event's lively atmosphere, filled with laughter and friendly rivalry, underscores the united spirit that preserves and promotes Lewiston’s culture and heritage.
For Lannon's team, the win is more than a trophy – it's a testament to dedication.
"We've buzzed in wrong before, but persistence paid off," Lannon shared post-victory. “It’s great to be able to join hands with elected officials, businesses and fellow volunteers to highlight Lewiston's rich history, which is the cornerstone of our community’s success."
