The Historical Association of Lewiston welcomes Budd Bailey to its next program, titled, “Let’s Talk Sports: A Conversation with Budd Bailey.” This presentation will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, at the Lutheran Church of the Messiah Fellowship Hall, 915 Oneida St.
Bailey has, for the past 50 years, written about the players, statistics and the history of Buffalo’s professional teams. His topics cover the gamut, from the Buffalo Braves NBA basketball team to the Bills, Sabres and Bandits of today. He is the author of 16 sport books, with the latest being published later this month, “One Bill’s Drive.” It’s a look at the top 50 games played so far at the Orchard Park stadium.
Bailey speaks about sports in a way that few could rival, peppering his talks with funny, behind-the-scenes anecdotes and little-known facts. He has given a series of talks at senior centers with colleague Stu Boyer, who used to work in sports at WGRZ-TV and graduated from Syracuse University with Budd in 1977.
Bailey is a journalist who retired in 2017 after working 23 years at the Buffalo News. During that time, he won the Tom Borrelli Award as the National Lacrosse League’s media personality of the year in 2011. He will have some of his books for sale at HAL’s October meeting.
This community gathering is free and open to all, but donations are greatly appreciated to help support the Lewiston Museum. Refreshments will be served.
