In response to the growing need for food support in the community, and to assist families and individuals facing food insecurity, City of North Tonawanda Mayor Austin Tylec’s office is partnering with Lumber City Church to host a community food assistance event.

Thanks to generous contributions from Tops Friendly Markets, Walmart North Tonawanda, local farmers who participate in the NT City Market, and many private residents and businesses, this event will provide free groceries to community members who could use a helping hand.

Donation drop-off & food distribution details

Location: Lumber City Church Hope Center, 383 Vandervoort, North Tonawanda (corner of Keil Street, aka “the REC,” in the lower level)

Donation drop-off:

√ 12:30-2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1

√ 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2

Community food pick-up (first come, first served):

√ 4-7 p.m. (or until supplies last) Monday, Nov. 3

Residents are encouraged to donate nonperishable food items during the scheduled drop-of times. Recommended items include canned soup, canned chicken and tuna, mac & cheese, canned fruit/apple sauce, cereal and oatmeal, cookies, crackers, pasta and sauce, minute rice, ramen, peanut butter and jelly – but all donations will be accepted. Families and individual seeking support can receive groceries during the pick-up window on Monday. Monetary donations are also greatly appreciated.

Tylec expressed gratitude to the community: “This collaborative effort highlights the heart of North Tonawanda. We are thankful to our local businesses, farmers and neighbors for stepping up to support those who may be struggling, especially in uncertain times.”
