Shopping under one roof became popular in the 1960s and peaked in popularity in the decade between 1970-80 when they became hubs for socialization, attending movies and a place for people to gather, people watch, dine and purchase goods and services.

Niagara County Director of Emergency Services Jonathan Schultz announced the New York State Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Services has released a form to track damages from the heavy rainfall and flash flooding events from July 28-29 and Aug. 2-3, 2026. The state will now be tracking all information related to the aforementioned.

New York State Senate Minority Leader Rob Ortt introduced legislation, Senate Bill S.10672, which would amend the environmental conservation law in relation to radioactive waste disposal. Currently, the state's hazardous waste Superfund program does not cover radiological contamination - and a Superfund cannot be declared for radiological contamination remediation.

Officials from the Environmental Protection Agency and two state agencies visited with Town of Niagara residents Monday in an attempt to further explain a government-monitored radiological assessments survey now underway on certain residential properties. The session followed a July 10 gathering in a town park where two residents revealed news of radioactivity readings found from recent testing on their individual properties.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), in coordination with the state Department of Health, announced a joint community availability session about the ongoing radiological survey of Niagara and Erie counties will be held at 5 p.m. Monday, July 20.

Daniel Manzella, a resident of Niagara Falls, was selected by the SUNY Niagara student body to serve as the student trustee of the college for a term that began July 1. Manzella, who graduated from North Tonawanda High School in 2018, is studying physics at SUNY Niagara and plans to transfer to a four-year institution to continue his degree in 2027.

The Town of Niagara and the Town of Niagara business liaison are planning a red, white and blue communitywide theme in celebration of the 250th birthday of this country and Niagara County. Military Road will be decorated with flowers and flags, and Packard Road will display county and town flags. The theme will run from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
