The Grand Island Fire Co. shared this message on Sunday, regarding a vehicle fire on the I-190 northbound:
Just before 4 p.m. today, the Grand Island Fire Co. was dispatched for a reported vehicle fire on the northbound South Grand Island Bridge. Crews arrived quickly and found a vehicle fully involved just north of the bridge on the I-190.
Engine 3 initiated the primary fire attack, while Engine 2 provided a secondary water source to help extinguish a stubborn, fuel-driven fire. Engine 4 also responded to support water supply operations. Thanks to a coordinated effort, the fire was brought under control within 30 minutes, and traffic lanes were safely reopened shortly after.
We’d like to thank our partners from NYS Troopers Troop T and the NYS Thruway Authority for their assistance in managing the scene and mitigating runoff from the incident.
A strong reminder to always pull over safely and give emergency responders space to work.
