McDonough, Cancilla elected to board of art society

Grand Island artists Karen M. McDonough and Michael Cancilla were elected to Buffalo Society of Artists board of directors. They will serve three-year terms.

McDonough has a bachelor’s in art from SUNY Buffalo State.

She has exhibited at Buscaglia-Castellani Art Gallery, Burchfield Penney Art Center and East Aurora Outdoor Fine Art Exhibit and Sale. She has also exhibited in all BSA open exhibitions since 2024. She was the originator and co-organizer of Island Art Exhibit at Buffalo Launch Club In February of 2024 and 2025.

McDonough said she has great respect for this organization, and it’s always been a dream to exhibit with BSA. She is making her dream a reality, she said.

Cancilla has been a Grand Island resident for over 40 years. He was the past president of the Grand Island Art Society from the late 1980s until the mid-1990s. Cancilla is a self-taught, award-winning artist who specializes in realistic oil paintings.

In addition to being on the board of directors for the Buffalo Art Society, he is also on the board of directors for Roycrofters at Large in East Aurora.
