Niagara Region State Parks Press Release

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation announced it will issue seasonal dock permits along the West River Shoreline Trail on a first-come, first-served basis for the 2026 season.

Permit applications will be distributed at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 7, in the main parking lot (No. 1) inside Beaver Island State Park on Grand Island. A vehicle-queuing lane will be established when the park opens at dawn. At 9 a.m., a park representative will arrive to hand out information packets. Participants are asked to remain in line and in their vehicles for safety and convenience.

After the lottery concludes, remaining interested parties are welcome to stop by the office during the week or call anytime. All inquiries and messages will be handled in order, and a waitlist will be started if all permits are used.

As a reminder, the park opens for patrons at dawn and there is no overnight parking. Patrons are asked to use the main entrance. Additionally, participants may apply for a permit or serve as a proxy, not both. Please plan accordingly.

Further information is available online at www.parks.ny.gov/parks/56/details.aspx, by calling the Beaver Island State Park Office at 716-773-3271, or by emailing beaverisland@parks.ny.gov.
