Birthdays are meant to be celebrated – especially through the eyes of a child. Sadly, with the rising cost of groceries, even a simple birthday cake can be out of reach for families who are struggling.
The Lewiston Lions decided to take action by launching a “Cakes for Kids” fundraiser. Each birthday kit includes a cake mix, icing, a can of soda (which replaces the need for oil and eggs), a baking pan, candles, balloons and a birthday card from the Lewiston Lions – along with a separate card for a parent or guardian to give to their child. To date, the club has assembled 120 kits. Of those, 60 have been delivered to the Care and Share Food Pantry in Ransomville and the Lighthouse Women and Children’s Shelter in Niagara Falls, helping ensure more children can enjoy a special birthday celebration.
