NCSO responds to pair of structure fires

On Feb. 7, at approximately 4:02 p.m., the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office communications center received multiple 911 calls reporting a garage fire at 6780 Shawnee Road, Wheatfield. NCSO deputies arrived on scene and confirmed a detached garage fully involved in fire.

Fire personnel from multiple companies responded and successfully extinguished the fire, preventing it from spreading to the nearby residential structure on the same property.

The residence sustained damage to its exterior siding. The garage collapsed as a result of the fire. No injuries were reported.

The investigation into the cause of the fire is being handled by the Niagara County fire investigation unit.

•On Feb. 7, at approximately 6:07 p.m., the NCSO communications center received a 911 call reporting a chimney fire inside a residence located at 7910 Lincoln Ave., Royalton. NCSO deputies and responding fire personnel arrived on scene and confirmed a chimney fire that had spread to the residence.

All occupants were able to safely exit the home. One resident was evaluated at the scene for smoke inhalation. During firefighting operations, one firefighter sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.

A total of 19 fire/EMS companies responded to the scene to assist with fire suppression and operations. The fire was successfully extinguished by responding units.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Niagara County fire investigation unit. There is no estimate on damages at this time.
