Expansion brings total to 19 early childhood education centers across WNY
Press release
On Tuesday, Rochester-based First Learning, a trusted leader in high-quality early care and education, with a growing network of centers across New York, announced the acquisition of Island Kids Child Care Centers. Effective April 13, both Island Kids Child Care Centers located on Grand Island joined the First Learning family, marking an exciting expansion in Western New York and a continued commitment to serving families with excellence.
“At First Learning, our focus is on delivering nurturing and engaging early education measured by a high standard that supports both children and the communities around them,” said David Kolczynski, president and CEO. “Western New York represents an important opportunity for us to expand that standard, bringing our resources and expertise to a growing region with strong, family-centered communities, while ensuring an effortless transition for the children, families and staff we serve.”
First Learning is focused on creating a smooth, supportive transition as it welcomes Island Kids Child Care Centers into its two Buffalo-area locations at Storybook Academy in Hamburg and Amherst. Families can expect a seamless continuity of care from the trusted staff they already know. In the coming months, First Learning has plans for thoughtful investments that will enhance the overall experience for children, parents and employees.
“Within the first few months, families will begin to see meaningful enhancements in both the facilities and programming,” said Michelle Ellis, executive director of operations. “These improvements reflect our commitment to delivering high-quality care through professionalism, accountability, trust, excellence, and a sense of fun in everything we do.”
This expansion reinforces First Learning’s dedication to supporting families and strengthening communities throughout Western New York. Through this acquisition, First Learning is increasing access to trusted care while continuing to invest in the families and communities it serves.
“We’re proud to welcome the Island Kids community into the First Learning family,” said Jeanie Harris, executive director of programs. “We’re committed to strengthening the programs and relationships that matter most, creating an environment where children receive high-quality care and educators are supported to do their best work.”
First Learning has a proven record of integrating child care centers across New York. With the addition of the two Island Kids locations, the organization now operates 19 centers across the region, including Care-a-lot, Generations Child Care, Windsor Academy, and Storybook Academy, all of which are supported by a play-based curriculum that fosters creativity, curiosity and social-emotional development.
