Artpark & Company press release & photos

Artpark, Western New York’s premier summer destination for performing and visual arts, boasts a 53rd season with an exciting lineup packed with music, art, festivals, family programs and much more.

Artpark & Company President Dave Wedekindt said, “Artpark is enjoyed by multiple generations every year and is part of the cultural fabric of the entire Western New York region. Our schedule of performances, events and activities this season truly runs the gamut from intimate gatherings all the way to performances for thousands of people. And all set in our beautiful 150-acre park with world-class views of the stunning Niagara River gorge. The Artpark experience is truly without par.”

Artpark’s season opens on May 28 with a family-friendly favorite Elmo from “Sesame Street” in “Elmo’s Got The Moves.” The all-new “Sesame Street Live” show for children will energize the Mainstage Theater as it fills with excited children and families.

Continuing with a family focus this season, the 16th annual “Fairy House Festival” returns Saturday, June 20. This year’s theme – “Under The Sea” – takes its inspiration from the waters of the stunning Niagara River. Also new this year is a pre-festival “Fairy Tea Party.” Attendance for the “Fairy Tea Party” is limited and proceeds benefit Artpark’s educational programs.

“Artcamps” for children ages 8-13 include two sessions this July where young artists enjoy day-long sessions of creativity and exploring Artpark – all led by professional staff and teaching artists.

“Wonder Wednesdays” a free series of eight different-themed days featuring active art-making and play in the outdoors returns in July and August. Reservations are required as sessions fill up fast.

Then, in early September, another favorite free event for the young and young-at-heart returns with the fifth annual “Better Off Read Summer Book Festival.”

Live music also continues as a centerpiece of Artpark’s season, with 22 concerts set for the amphitheater and Mainstage Theater. The diverse lineup includes rock, pop, country, jazz and classical music performed by artists ranging from hot new talents to legends.

Dance also returns to the Mainstage in a once-in-a-century collaboration with Jon Lehrer Dance Company (JLDC) and John Bacon and Star People. The program, “Legacy in Motion: Celebrating Miles Davis at 100,” features music from throughout Davis’ career performed live by some of the region’s finest jazz artists accompanied by original dance by JLDC. It also marks the anniversary of the jazz legend’s birth on the very stage where he performed during Artpark’s inaugural 1974 season.

The current schedule of events are below. Tickets and registration for all events are now open unless noted. Free events are notated. Visit artpark.net for more information.
