Pushed to Labor Day weekend due to severe weather forecast

√ Planning is underway to expand America 250 celebration, with additional details to be announced in near future

Submitted by the Buffalo and Erie County Naval & Military Park

In the best interest of guests, visitors, participants and event partners, Erie County has postponed “716 Celebrates: Stars, Stripes & Signers,” originally scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 2, on Buffalo’s waterfront.

The decision was made due to the forecasted weather conditions and the likelihood of severe weather, including thunderstorms and the possibility of flash flooding.

The free community celebration commemorating America’s 250th anniversary will instead take place during Labor Day weekend.

Planning is already underway with event organizers, participating organizations, performers and community partners to build out the rescheduled program over two days, on Saturday, and Sunday, Sept. 5-6. Additional information, including the schedule and event details, will be announced in the near future.

“716 Celebrates: Stars, Stripes & Signers” is presented by Erie County, the Erie County Historical Commission, and the Buffalo and Erie County Naval & Military Park. The celebration is expected to feature live entertainment, historic ships, military history, interactive exhibits, local food, family activities, and a fireworks finale over Buffalo’s Inner Harbor.

Erie County thanks the community, event partners, participants, and vendors for their understanding and cooperation as plans are finalized for Labor Day weekend.

Updates will be posted at www.buffalonavalpark.org/716-celebrates/ as additional information becomes available.
