Monday’s Lewiston Town Board work session included a number of items of interest for residents, including:

•News from the town clerk’s office of an electronics recycling program to be held next month at the Lewiston Highway Department garage on Swann Road. See more HERE.

•Supervisor Steve Broderick unveiled a number of micropaving projects by the Lewiston Highway Department for 2025. Under the lengthy, $705,468 plan submitted by Highway Superintendent Dan Zahno, expense totals include: micropave, $135,797; paving, $452,663; and general repairs, $117,008.

“For the micropaving, it’s going to be Wolf Run, Homestead Place, Lewiston Road, north and south Brookside, south Hewitt Drive, north Hewitt Drive, Edna Drive (and) Walmore Road,” Broderick said.

Pavement “correct patching” will be done on the following: West Street, Miller Road, Scoville Drive, Cayuga Drive, Walker Drive, Schoolhouse Road and Langdon Road. Road “profile and asphalt” work include Myers Hill Road, Dickersonville Road and Walmore Road.

Broderick continued, “And chip sealing is Old Ransomville Road, Schoolhouse Road, Albright Road, Simmons Road and Langdon Road. Profile and asphalt (milling and paving work) will be Myers Hill Road, Dickersonville Road and Walmore Road.”

• In more news from the session, Broderick announced an update in legal representation with the Niagara Power Coalition, an entity the town has been associated with from its earlier involvement in the New York Power Authority relicensing in 2007.

“Our relicensing agreement with NYPA expires this September,” he reported.

Broderick said that, as a coalition member, each participant includes has its own legal representation. Until recently, the town was represented by Tom Seaman of Seaman Norris LLP in Lockport.

On Monday, Broderick proposed attorney Henry D. Wojtaszek, former president of Western Regional Off-Track Betting Corp., to take over as relicensing attorney for the town. Wojtaszek will reportedly earn $300 per hour in the position.

“So, after talking with Niagara County, I’m going to make a motion to hire Henry Wojtaszek as the town attorney to represent the town for the NYPA relicensing only,” Broderick said.

The motion, seconded by Councilman Rob Morreale, was approved 3-1, with Councilwoman Sarah Waechter abstaining.

Town of Lewiston Attorney Alfonso Marra Bax, who handled the matter for the municipality, said, “I have a long-running history with Henry Wojtaszek. I think this is one of those issues, as far as the town is concerned, that requires not only the legal expertise, but also knowing the political landscape – especially with NYPA going in there, that we need to be well represented, as the rest of the entities are. I think Mr. Wojtaszek will do a good job.”

Wrapping up:

•The board approved for the renewal of USI Insurance Services as the town’s property/title insurance carrier for 2025-26. Finance/Budget Director Jacqueline Agnello said the town has incurred rising replacement costs with the carrier due to market prices, but recommended the plan.

•On a motion from Waechter, the board approved the hire of Carole Schroeder, formerly deputy Lewiston town clerk, to serve as the new aging services rep for the Town of Lewiston Senior Center.

•Councilman Jason Myers announced the Sanborn Historical Association will feature a program on the War of 1812 with speaker Jon McSwann. The program takes place at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, during the group’s regular meeting in the Sanborn Farm Museum, 2660 Saunders Settlement Road. It is open to the public.
