Northwest Bank assisting History Center to promote children's programs

This summer, Northwest Bank is assisting the History Center in promoting its children's programs. As an incentive for parents to enroll their children, Northwest Bank is sponsoring special sign-up times that include a goodie bag for each child registered and paid for that during the promotion. Payment can be made with a History Center representative at the bank by cash or check during the designated times.

Niagara County Legislature Chairwoman Becky Wydysh and Legislator Irene Myers are co-sponsoring a household hazardous waste collection on Saturday, Aug. 21, in conjunction with the Town of Lewiston, New York State Sen. Rob Ortt, Assemblyman Angelo Morinello and the Niagara County Department of Public Works. The event is open to all Niagara County residents. An appointment is required.

NYPA board of trustees approves $1 million to help towns & villages purchase electric vehicles

The New York Power Authority board of trustees on Tuesday approved $1.1 million in additional funding to help New York's municipal and rural electric cooperative systems bring more hybrid and electric vehicles into their fleets. The additional financial assistance, available through the Municipal and Rural Cooperative Electric Utilities Electric-Drive Vehicle Program, will expand a long-running clean energy partnership that encourages electric vehicle use and reduces greenhouse gas emissions across New York.

"Money" Mat Williamson from St. Catharines, Ontario, and Middleport's Derek Wagner won the Sid and Carol Jeffery Memorial events for the Krown Undercoating Modifieds and Investor's Service Sportsman respectively Friday night at the Ransomville Speedway. For Williamson, it was his third victory of the season at "The Big R." For Wagner, it was his second triumph of the season.
