Since our last edition, things have really progressed on a number of fronts: The state budget was finalized in Albany, and new guidance was (finally) released by the New York State Department of Health, aligning to the updated guidance from the CDC related to social distancing in schools. We have moved quickly to advance both the 2021-22 budget and plans to return students to campus under the new guidance.

At its April 8 combined work session/regular meeting, the Village of Youngstown announced plans to reopen the Red Brick Youngstown Village Center to the public on May 1, with all state-mandated COVID-19 protocols in place.

We missed seeing everyone for our 2020 Nancy Price Memorial 5K Race, but our community continued to support our event in a very big way. As things are continuing to open up and improve for all of us, the Nancy Price Memorial 5K Run will be run live this year as well as continuing to offer the option of running a virtual race.

Multi-Platinum band Barenaked Ladies will return to Artpark in Lewiston to headline a "Tuesdays in the Park" concert on July 5, 2022. The show was originally scheduled for the summers of 2020 and 2021, but was delayed due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Niagara County Community College's 2021 Film & Animation Festival will be held from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, May 1. I am deeply saddened to learn of the sudden passing of my friend and former colleague Keith McNall. Having served with Keith during his tenure as chairman of the Legislature, I watched and learned as Keith presided over the legislature with integrity, grace, and professionalism. I gained much from him, and am forever grateful for his guidance and leadership.

Niagara County Clerk Joseph Jastrzemski on Monday announced the Niagara County Department of Motor Vehicles will be putting a schedule in place that allows residents to come to a local DMV office without an appointment one day a week at each of the county's three DMV offices.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday announced the New York Power Authority's board of trustees approved economic development awards to 23 entities that will support 2,292 jobs across the state - with 870 jobs newly created - and spur more than $580 million in private capital investments. Eighteen entities are receiving awards through ReCharge NY energy allocations, while the remaining five are receiving Niagara hydropower allocations and funding awards to enterprises in Western New York.

The Niagara County Youth Bureau will return as a sponsor for the 2021 summer food service program (SFSP), which ensures children who are economically disadvantaged continue to receive nutritious meals during vacation.
