Happy Halloween, boys and ghouls! This week at Lewiston-Porter was filled with spirited activities across the district as students celebrated School Spirit Week. Activities included dress up days and virtual events, including Halloween celebrations, bringing the whole school community together.
Lewiston Senior Center announces November happenings

The Town of Lewiston Senior Center will host its Thanksgiving Day get-together (a hearty turkey dinner luncheon with all the trimmings) at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, at its Lower River Road site. Hosted by the Niagara County Office for the Aging, a number of area officials have been invited including members of the Lewiston Town Board and area seniors.
Red Brick Museum growing in Lewiston

This has been a big year for acquisitions and received donations. The museum collection has now tripled in size. Earlier this year, I acquired some local artwork from the Cary and Baker estate collections. Also, another signed print from Thomas Hanover, along with some other rare engravings, which are on display in the village boardroom.

Niagara University to offer guaranteed internships, stipends to students in its Pathways Program

According to a 2019 student survey conducted by the National Association of Colleges and Employers, more than half of all students who completed an internship received a job offer within six months of graduation. To facilitate these opportunities for a greater number of students, Niagara University's Office of Career Services is enhancing its innovative Pathways Program to guarantee internships for participants and to provide stipends to students whose internships are unpaid.

Wilson honors alum

Tom Reubens, a graduate of the Wilson Central School District (Class of 2007), was an All-State athlete and scholar, with a great love of history and nature. His life was cut short by a little known cardiac illness called Brugada syndrome. In his honor, the Reubens family has created a scholarship to support student athletes, and Niagara Family Medicine Associates has donated a tree that was planted at Wilson Elementary School last Friday.
French heritage history & activities at Old Fort Niagara

From René-Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle to Capt. Pierre Pouchot, the French had a significant presence on the Niagara River for almost 100 years from 1669 to 1759. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, Old Fort Niagara will celebrate that history and present French Heritage Day in cooperation with the American Association of Teachers of French.

The shelter is asking the community to enter pets in the first "Spooktacular Howl-O-Ween" photo contest for a chance to win some great prizes.
