Super Bowl is kind of a big deal at our house. My husband, Fred, has been hosting a Super Bowl party that predates our marriage. The "Caso Party" is now in its 33rd year. I try to mix in some new dishes along with the obligatory pizza and wings, and this year it's going to be homemade potato skins (which are much more cost-effective for folks on a budget.)

Assemblyman Angelo Morinello joined third-graders from Niagara Street Elementary School to kick of his second annual "Valentines for Seniors." This year's program already features over 10 local public and private elementary schools in the assemblyman's district making valentines for seniors in the community who are in assisted living facilities, senior center participants or Meals on Wheels clients.

The opening of "2020 Vision: Women Artists in Western NY" at the Castellani Art Museum will take place from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20. Preparations are underway for the 2020 Northwest Jazz Festival, which will take place Friday and Saturday, Aug. 28 and 29, in the Village of Lewiston. To that end, the board of directors and Jazz Festival staff will hold a fundraiser, "A Taste of Jazz," from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, April 19, at the Brickyard Brewing Company 436 Center St., Lewiston.

Tuesday night, the Lewiston-Porter Lancers faced the Niagara Falls Wolverines on the hardwood without their star sophomore Roddy Gayle.
Gayle was on the bench for the Lancers' battle, as he nursed an injury. And while most people counted L-P out in his absence, the Lancers gave the Wolverines everything they had.
Despite the efforts, the Wolverines prevailed, 71-67, behind big nights from Taylor Sanders and Bryce Smith.

The Lewiston-Porter Lancers boys basketball team has played tough non-league competition all season. Wednesday night, the team faced another challenge in Buffalo's Middle Early College Kats.
Despite a physical and highly contested battle, the Lancers fell versus New York's No. 4 team in Class C, 72-69.
