'Weird Al,' Artpark party like it's 1699

Artpark's "Tuesdays in the Park" concert this week was definitely weird. Not weird as in strange, but weird as in Al Yankovic. He brought his "Strings Attached" tour to Lewiston - complete with a top-notch backing band, a 41-piece orchestra, numerous video packages, and, of course, unique costume changes.

The Kiwanis Club of Lewiston announced the awarding of scholarships to Nicholas Passanese, Suhana Monsalve, Domenic Barile and Miguel Bautista. Lewiston Kiwanis awarded Passanese a $2,000 scholarship, while scholarships of $1,000 each were presented to Monsalve and Barile.

In the U.S., vaccine-preventable disease outbreaks are occurring in schools, churches, religious groups and other group settings with low immunization rates. New York state has experienced increased numbers of measles outbreaks in areas with low immunization rates of children. This was due to religious exemptions that resulted in unvaccinated children attending schools where disease was spread to other unvaccinated children, some of whom cannot receive vaccines due to medical conditions.

Old Fort Niagara readies for 40th anniversary of French & Indian War Encampment

Old Fort Niagara anticipates welcoming about 500 reenactors and close to 10,000 visitors over the weekend of July 5-7 for the 40th anniversary of the French and Indian War Encampment. This annual event recreates highlights from the actual 19-day British siege of the French fort in July of 1759 through history tours, cannon firings, military music, sutlers, games, dancing, musket firings and living history camps of British, French and Native reenactors.
