As Ontario Lake levels continue to rise, Congressman Chris Collins is warning that a new round of south shore flooding and erosion is likely with harsh spring weather. Collins has continually pointed to the International Join Commission (IJC) and its Plan 2014, which was approved at the close of the Obama administration, as the culprit for continued flood concerns.

The Nancy Price Memorial 5K Run will be held Saturday, May 11, starting at the Youngstown Fire Hall, 625 Third St. The race route will take runners through the village and along the river walking path at Fort Niagara State Park, ultimately ending back at the Youngstown Fire Department.

As the nation continues to be captivated by James Holzhauer - the million-dollar man on "Jeopardy!" - it was Sandy Blackwell Yates who put on a show Saturday night at the Brickyard Brewing Company. She captained her team to a resounding victory in "Lewiston Jeopardy," earning a large trophy and the applause of an impressed audience.

A large crowd gathered at the Red Brick Municipal Building on Saturday to participate in the annual Earth Day spring cleanup. People spruced up neighboring roads and public areas. Refreshment were provided.

As part of the recent "Shop Hop" event in Lewiston, the Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce held a contest to name the Easter Bunny. More than 70 entries were submitted. The Chamber of Commerce staff had a hard time deciding what name would be best. After much consideration, the winning name is "Mary Hoppins."

The Niagara Falls Culinary Institute will host an American Culinary Federation (ACF) competition from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, April 27-28. This annual competition is geared toward promoting student and professional cooking excellence, and is open to the public for anyone interested in viewing the action. There is no charge to attend.

I am very fortunate my family can send me to The Summit Center's Building Connections summer program. It is a social skills program. I have attended this wonderful program for six years. It has taught me things such as facial expressions, clarifying directions, even job interviews.

On April 12, the Lewiston Lions hosted an activity at the Lewiston Event Center for special needs children from Niagara Falls High School. The Lions Club provided bowling, food and fun for a group of more than 45 children and staff.

On March 30, 90 people gathered at the Tuscarora Nation House for a Native American History Symposium sponsored by the Old Fort Niagara Association. The event featured three well-known Native American scholars, and a panel discussion. The program's theme centered on the Native view of Fort Niagara during the 18th and early 19th centuries.
