It's time once again for the Lewiston Art Festival, our annual celebration of the creative spark that lives in all of us! On Saturday, Aug. 10 (10 a.m. to 6 p.m.), and Sunday, Aug. 11 (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.), the Lewiston Council on the Arts will showcase the work of more than 200 artists, musicians, performers and concessionaires who come from near and far to be a part of this annual festival of imagination and skill.

Dr. Douglas Tewksbury, associate professor of communication and media studies at Niagara University, spent three weeks last October as a member of a unique expeditionary residency program called the Arctic Circle, which brought 30 artists to the remote Svalbard region of Norway to create works that engage with issues of environmentalism and the climate crisis.

The Niagara County Department of Health confirmed a rabid bat on Wilson-Burt Road, Town of Wilson, on Aug. 8. The bat was found outdoors on Aug. 4. No pets were implicated. The Niagara County nursing division will assess any possible human exposure and recommend any post-exposure rabies treatment as appropriate.

On Aug. 5, at approximately 1:20 a.m., Niagara Falls Police received a call of an injured woman in the roadway at 22nd Street and Niagara Avenue. Responding officers discovered a 50-year-old Niagara Falls woman with life-threatening injuries. It appears she was operating an e-bike when she was struck by a vehicle that left the scene of the crash.

In celebration of Artpark & Company's 50th anniversary season, Craig Walsh's "Monuments," a temporary installation created by the acclaimed Australian artist, will be unveiled at 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, in Artpark's Amphitheater along the red brick road and upper lawn.
