The Youngstown Free Library was presented a $1,905 check on Tuesday for its 2022 "Browsing Bins." This project was the recipient of the free will donation held at the June 25 Strawberry Festival on the grounds of St. John's Episcopal Church in Youngstown.

As of Aug. 20, the Care-n-Share Food Pantry is relocating to 3745 Ransomville Road (Jill's Play Yard). Care-n-Share serves the needs of residents from Ransomville, Lewiston, Youngstown, Wilson and Sanborn. It's moving to a larger space just up the road from its current site.

The Niagara County Legislature voted Tuesday to allocate up to $100,000 for the construction of a new Purple Heart monument on the grounds of the Niagara County Courthouse in Lockport. The vote endorsed the recommendations of an ad hoc committee that was formed earlier this year to come up with a design and a location to honor Niagara County's Purple Heart recipients.

Modern Disposal Services recently teamed up Lt. James Lucas, Sheriff Michael Filicetti and the Niagara County underwater recovery team to support a new underwater metal detector unit for their division. The new device has advanced technology to make it easier for the underwater team to locate a variety of articles when needed in certain situations and difficult conditions.

Niagara County Department of Public Works Commissioner Garret Meal on Tuesday announced a section of Porter Center Road in the Town of Lewiston will be closed to all motorists, except local traffic, beginning Monday, Aug. 8. Electronic message boards are already in place warning motorists of the pending closure.

At approximately 11:30 p.m. Friday, July 29, Niagara Falls Police and Niagara Falls Fire departments responded to an address in the 500 block of 19th Street for a report of an unresponsive male. The 59-year-old male had sustained a gunshot wound and was deceased at the scene.

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Niagara River Greenway Fund Standing Committee will hold a meeting at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3, to vote on funding for a project being proposed by State Parks.
