Seaman sworn into office

Brian D. Seaman, with wife Donna by his side, was sworn in as Niagara County district attorney on Wednesday, Dec. 30. The oath of office was conducted by Niagara County Court Judge Matthew J. Murphy III - who himself served as Niagara County DA for 16 years, and hired Seaman as an assistant DA in 2006.
Rapid COVID-19 testing now available at WellNow Urgent Care centers

WellNow Urgent Care began offering COVID-19 rapid antigen testing at almost all its centers in upstate New York this week. WellNow expects to bring rapid testing to all remaining locations before the end of the year.

High school students get jumpstart on college at NCCC

At a time when the pandemic has brought challenges for many in the academic realm, Niagara County Community College is improving access to higher education for high school students through the college acceleration program (CAP). CAP allows students to take college courses at their own high school, following NCCC curriculum. In essence, the dual-enrolled high school students are getting a head start on their college careers.

Simon conducted a tour through the company's newly-acquired, 47,000-square-foot hangar where the company will be bringing aircraft manufacturing back to the Empire State. On tour was Town of Niagara Supervisor Lee Wallace, New York State Assemblyman Angelo Morinello, and Niagara Falls Mayor Robert Restaino.

USDA to conduct 2020 local food marketing practices survey

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) will conduct the 2020 local food marketing practices survey, beginning in January 2021. First conducted in 2015, this census of agriculture special study will look at local and regional food systems and provide new data on how locally grown and sold foods in the U.S. are marketed. The results will be available in November 2021.

Though Erie County has made statewide headlines over the past month for its high number of coronavirus cases, more attention is starting to shift to neighboring Niagara County - where 11.5% of people tested for COVID-19 on Tuesday were positive. The seven-day average at that point was 8.6%, which was second in New York (only trailing Allegany County's 9.1%).

NCCC unveils new EOP office, collaboration with Niagara Falls High School

While the educational opportunity program (EOP) has been around since former New York State Assemblyman Arthur O. Eve started it in 1967, it is relatively new to Niagara County Community College. The program started at NCCC in August of 2016 with the goal of providing academic workshops, tutoring, counseling, advisement and financial assistance to historically under-served students who require additional academic support.
NCCC student advocates for accessibility at SUNY campuses

Collin Lacki is a sophomore at Niagara County Community College studying music in hopes of pursuing a career in music therapy one day. He decided to enroll at NCCC because of the quality education he could receive at the college, while still getting a typical on-campus experience away from his home in Brocton. As a student with a disability, a quality education for Collin also meant receiving support through the accessibility services office on campus.

Niagara County Community College participated in its second annual Day of Giving on Tuesday. Thunderwolves from all over - faculty, staff, alumni, and friends - came together to give back to NCCC, raising $7,347 from 105 donors. Their donations were designated toward programs that support NCCC's students and further the college mission. Areas that were included were the NCCC annual fund, Athletic Department, honors program, horticulture program and English department.
