Niagara County Clerk Joseph A. Jastrzemski announced the Niagara County Department of Motor Vehicles will hold special office hours this Saturday, Aug. 29, at the North Tonawanda and Lockport DMV offices for those who need to renew their commercial driver's licenses (CDL). No appointment is necessary.

Niagara County Legislature Chairman Becky Wydysh on Friday announced she is approving the reopening of gyms and fitness centers, including indoor classes, in Niagara County on Monday, Aug. 24 - the earliest date allowed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo. He left the decision on gym reopenings to local county officials.

On Tuesday, the North Tonawanda Common Council voted 3-1 to appoint current 2nd Ward Alderman Donna Braun as city clerk/treasurer. The position was vacated when then-city clerk/treasurer Matthew Parrish resigned on Aug. 9. Assistant City Clerk Lori Swartz has filled the position in the interim.

North Tonawanda native and (now) Buffalo State College graduate Crista Sukennik was recently a finalist for Ad Age magazine's "Young Creatives Cover Competition." Sukennik was one of nine finalists selected out of over 350 submissions from professional artists and industry professionals all over the globe.

In response to a blistering audit from the New York State Comptroller's office, City of North Tonawanda Accountant Jeffrey Zellner addressed the council Tuesday night and refuted some of the audit's findings. He also referred to the audit as being "politically motivated" and criticized the auditors themselves as being "unprofessional."
