Friday, Sept. 13, proved to be unlucky for the junior varsity volleyball team of Grand Island, the Vikings. Niagara-Wheatfield ascended to a 3-0 match against the Vikings, each set being close, but a win nonetheless for the Lady Falcons.

In a take-two of a match earlier this month, Grand Island and Niagara-Wheatfield vied to be the best tennis team in the league. The result was the two teams are now tied at No. 1 after a 4-1 sweep by the Lady Falcons against the Vikings.

The Town Board of Niagara convened on Tuesday for a mere 30 minutes. During that time, the board resolved to grant Randal Sinatra a mixed-families residence zoning for his property on Laur Road, create a local law that paves the way for a possible recycling plant within the town, schedule a public hearing for the destruction of a zombie home and, of course, answer questions from citizens.

Al D'Angelo of the subdivision, Country Meadows, in the Town of Wheatfield made a plea to the Town Board to repave his street. The long-time resident who said that he was asked to represent his neighbors, noted he has been lobbying for years, but keeps getting the same answer from Highway Superintendent Paul Siegmann: "There's no money in the budget."

The Niagara SPCA has a new program aimed at emptying its facilities. It seeks help from the community. Understandably, a lot of people can't help by adopting an animal, but the SPCA is hoping that community businesses and individuals would like to be the second best thing: the force behind finding each of these pets a home. It's called "Sponsor a Cage."

The talk of the residents in Town of Niagara on Friday was of a press release posted on the town's Facebook page. According to the release, the Electric Lights Parade is taking a year off from marching on Military Road. It will continue in 2020.

The Kenmore West Blue Devils Varsity boys team was defeated by narrow margin to the North Tonawanda Lumberjacks in the first game of the season. The sole goal scored over all 80 minutes was made on a penalty kick by Tyler MacNeil.
