Niagara-Wheatfield kindergarten registration

Niagara-Wheatfield kindergarten registration will be held 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 25 to 29. Registrations will be accepted in the district administration location at 5700 West St.  Children must be 5 years old, on or before Dec. 1, to be eligible for this fall.

On March 11, at approximately 5:26 p.m., a Niagara County Sheriff's deputy initiated a traffic stop on an uninspected motor vehicle. Upon stopping the vehicle, the deputy discovered the vehicle to be operated by 50-year-old Jeffrey J. Fader. In the vehicle was a 14-year-old child.

DEC releases final remedial investigation report for Niagara Sanitation Landfill, confirms no off-site exposure to landfill contaminants

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Basil Seggos on Tuesday announced DEC has completed its report detailing the comprehensive investigation of the Niagara Sanitation Landfill in the Town of Wheatfield. The report includes the results of DEC's expanded sampling of surface soil, subsurface soil, sediment, surface water, and groundwater at the site, which confirms landfill contaminants do not present an off-site exposure concern to neighboring properties.

On Sunday and parts of Monday, Western New York got hit with yet another storm this winter. No snow or ice to mention, but winds blew through the area at steady speeds in the 40 mile-per-hour range, with gusts up above 70 mph. The Tribune's local municipalities - the Town of Wheatfield, Town of Niagara and City of North Tonawanda - all endured the wind's wrath and had to deal with some damage.

Tuesday night, in what Town of Niagara Supervisor Lee Wallace called record time, the Town Board held its regular meeting for the month of February. The board declared a negative declaration, which shows no harm to the environment, in accordance with the State Environmental Quality Review on part of a site plan from Mercado Development in regard to outdoor seating at a new food hall at the Fashion Outlets Mall.
