Niagara Hospice unveiled its branded ambulette on Tuesday after it was wrapped with the organization's logo and colors by Streamline Designs, a vehicle wrap and vinyl graphics installation company in North Tonawanda. The new ambulette was purchased and put into service last month thanks to more than $34,000 raised by the 19th annual Jack Beatty Memorial Cruise & Clambake held last July.

The Niagara Military Affairs Council has established a scholarship named in honor of Merrell Lane, long-time chairman and co-founder of NIMAC. Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Monday announced nearly $4.5 million was awarded to 13 animal shelters and humane societies across the state through the New York State Companion Animal Capital Fund. The funding will support construction, renovation and expansion projects that will enhance animal care and health, and help ensure adoptions for New York's dogs and cats.

Author Jennifer Gold was the honored guest at Spruce Elementary School recently. Gold read to the students from her books "Top Leaf," which tells the story of a very rude leaf who lives at a top of a tree, and "Yes, I Knew the Queen" which is a long poem about letting a story get out of hand.
