On July 1, the Wheatfield Nitro 16-and-under softball team defeated the WNY Sting to win the West Seneca Magic tournament. The team recorded a 7-1 record throughout the tournament, which included 16 different teams.

U.S. Attorney James P. Kennedy Jr. announced Monday that Glen Stacharczyck, 53, of Buffalo, pleaded guilty to RICO conspiracy, before U.S. District Judge Elizabeth A. Wolford. The charge carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

The fifth annual Oliver Street Art Festival will take place from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, August 4, on Oliver Street (between Schenck and Robinson streets), North Tonawanda. Edward Pawenski was honored posthumously for his dedication to the establishment of Niagara County Community College at the June board meeting. The board of trustees passed a resolution to honor Pawenski for his service to NCCC, presenting a plaque to his family, including his grandson - Niagara County Legislator Richard Andres.

At the June board meeting, William Ross was re-elected for a second term as the chairman of the Niagara County Community College board of trustees, with Vice Chairperson Gina Virtuoso and Secretary Bonnie Sloma being re-elected into their positions as well.
