Members of the Barefoot Christian Community gathered on Dec. 3 for its monthly Serve Sunday. After singing, reading scripture, and having a brief advent devotional, members worked together on Christmas outreach projects for the local community.

As the holiday season approaches, many know it's called the season of giving. Around Niagara County, there are a great deal of organizations that focus on giving back to others. On Tuesday night, the Fashion Outlets of Niagara Falls, USA once again partnered up with the Town of Niagara in their annual "Giving Fashionably" event that donates to organizations who have had a meaningful impact to the Town of Niagara and community at large.

On Monday, Owner Barb Hughes cut the ribbon to the new Webster's Kitchen facility, 110 Webster St., North Tonawanda. The facility is an expansion from the Webster's Bistro just a few steps down the road and feature a home like kitchen and dining area for private parties.

At last Tuesday's North Tonawanda Common Council meeting, the meeting moved along rather quick, but a majority of the meeting was conducted by citizens during public input. Many of the topics discussed involved issues citizens were having in the area and felt the city should take some accountability to fix them.

As part of the global Giving Tuesday initiative, local establishments have teamed with the agency to provide needed funds for the less fortunate. Rainforest Café will donate 10 percent of its sales to Community Missions on Tuesday, Nov. 28, while TGI Friday's will do the same on Wednesday, Nov. 29. On Friday, Dec. 1, Power City Eatery will donate in the same fashion, as will Third Street Retreat on Saturday, Dec. 2. Lewiston's Village Bake Shoppe will also donate $1 for each "Cake in a Cup" sold throughout the week.

Last Thursday, the Niagara-Wheatfield Kiwanis Club met at Jacks, 6935 Ward Road, to celebrate its 10th anniversary. Several members of the Niagara Frontier North Division of Kiwanis were in attendance, including the Amherst, Clarence, Ken-Ton, Lewiston and Tonawanda Kiwanis Clubs.

The holiday festival, from 5:30-7:30 p.m., will include musical entertainment featuring Bob Volkman, fireworks and the official flipping of the switch on the holiday light display in the park.

The Town of Niagara Lions and Lioness Clubs will honor the nation's veterans Saturday, Nov. 11, with a special ceremony at the new memorial in Veterans Memorial Community Park, 7000 Lockport Road in the Town of Niagara. The ceremony was previously held at Veterans Park at the intersection of Lawson and Bellreng drives, but has been moved to the new location on Lockport Road.

The 2017 Niagara-Wheatfield girls volleyball season was one that many will remember throughout the Falcons program. Coach Brandi Cochran's team won the Niagara Frontier League championship, lost two matches all season and reached the program's first ever Section VI championship.

In the lone race in the Town of Niagara, councilmen Marc Carpenter and Charles Teixeira were re-elected to the Town Board by the citizens on Tuesday. Carpenter, Teixeira and Donald Schildhauer ran for the two seats on the board, with Carpenter netting the most votes at 1,015 (45 percent). Teixeira racked up 764 votes (34 percent), while Schildhauer finished third with 501 votes (22 percent).

On Saturday, thousands of people filled the sidewalks of Military Road for the 13th annual Electric Lights Parade in the Town of Niagara. The holiday kickoff parade drew people and organizations from around surrounding counties of Western New York.

Earlier Thursday afternoon, citizens in the Town of Niagara on Grauer Road were asked by police to shelter in place due to a police incident. The first word is the incident ended with an arrest. Also, nobody was hurt in the incident. According to nyalert.gov, the shelter in place was cancelled at 1:31 p.m. and citizens were able to resume normal activities.
