After heavy rains saturated Western New York earlier this month, Town of Niagara Supervisor Lee Wallace spoke at Tuesday's Town Board meeting about current and planned projects the town is working on to alleviate flooding issues.

Girl Scouts of Western New York recently announced North Tonawanda Girl Scout Siana Jacobs is a 2017 Gold Award recipient. The Gold Award is the highest award in Girl Scouts. Jacobs' earned the award for a project where she organized a clothing drive and created personal hygiene kits for people in Nicaragua.

Macerich's Fashion Outlets Niagara Falls USA recently held its third annual Earth Day Dumpster Mural contest, in partnership with Guard Contracting Corp. The contest featured artwork from two local schools demonstrating their vision of Earth Day. Students created murals on Dumpsters in the Military Road parking lot.

The team of employees at the Valu Home Centers location in North Tonawanda recently participated in a weight loss challenge, where, all together, they lost almost 132 pounds. Employees decided to try and gather at least 132 pounds of food, and ended up with 360 pounds to donate to the North Tonawanda Inter-Church Food Pantry.

Wild Kritters of Niagara County has been tending to wounded mammals, birds and reptiles for more than a decade. The organization is licensed by New York State and U.S. Fish and Wildlife to rehabilitate injured and orphaned wildlife. On Saturday, April 1, NIOGA, a nonprofit cooperative library system, kicked off its 2017 Check Out Challenge at the North Tonawanda Public Library and announced a scavenger hunt across the system's three counties. The challenge comes just ahead of National Library Week.
