Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013, will mark the 12th anniversary of the terrorist attacks in New York, Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C. The people of the U.S. are asked to solemnly observe Patriot Day and to remember the civilians and military personnel who lost their lives in the attacks.

During the month of October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, hospitals throughout Niagara County will be offering free breast cancer screening to uninsured women. Each hospital will provide free mammograms for women ages 40-64 who do not have health insurance.

"Winds, Waves and Wines XIV," the Aquarium of Niagara's fall fundraiser, takes place from 6-9 p.m. Sept. 19 at the Conference and Event Center in Niagara Falls. Orleans/Niagara BOCES will start its fall driver and traffic education course on Monday, Sept. 16. The program is being offered at the Orleans/Niagara BOCES Conference Center in Sanborn and Medina High School to all students who are 16 years of age as of Sept. 16, and who possess a valid state permit and a 48-hour course to learn how to drive responsibly.
