One year after a Veronica Connor Middle School student was resuscitated on the track at Masters Field after collapsing during a gym class, a 1-mile run/walk, called Keep Grand Island Beating, will take place at 11 a.m. Sept. 26 to raise funds to purchase CPR training equipment and a portable automated external defibrillator.

Deborah Billoni, chair of the Town of Grand Island Ethics Committee and treasurer of the Grand Island Republican Committee, received a 2015 Business First Woman of Influence Award as a Community Supporter on Sept. 17 during a luncheon in Depew. Billoni has been the director of finance and operations at the International Institute of Buffalo since 2009.

Erie County Department of Social Services Commissioner Al Dirschberger has announced the launch of a new supplemental nutrition assistance program ("SNAP") call center designed to help families on nutrition assistance to resolve service issues more quickly.
