Jamison R. Crawford, a Niagara University senior from Grand Island, was recently notified that a paper he presented at the 19th annual Illinois State University Conference for Students of Political Science on April 8 has been selected for a Best Paper Award by Pi Sigma Alpha, the National Political Science Honor Society. As a result, Jamison's paper, one of only four undergraduate submissions chosen, will be published in the fall 2011 issue of Critique, a worldwide student journal of politics.

At the Monday evening meeting of the Grand Island Board of Education, trustees reviewed the $51,859,079 proposed budget for the 2011-12 school year. The budget, with its estimated tax increase of 1.7 percent, will go to public vote on Tuesday, May 17.

The Miracle League began in the 1990s in Georgia as a baseball league for children with disabilities. The kids play on accessible fields and have special rules. The league now serves 200,000 children and young adults in 250 affiliate organizations throughout the world.
