The Grand Island Garden Walk Committee is hosting the Grand Island Garden walk, featuring gardens across the town. The walk will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 8. Maps of the walk are available at the Town Commons gazebo.

Domestic violence is a crime that "is all about power and control," said Mary Travers Murphy, executive director of the Family Justice Center, speaking at the FJC's annual fundraising breakfast on June 8. According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, "domestic violence is an epidemic affecting individuals in every community, regardless of age, economic status, sexual orientation, gender, race, religion or nationality." One of those communities is Grand Island.

The 179th Erie County Fair will see the inauguration of a daily patriotic tradition that will honor veterans and active military members. Beginning Aug. 8 at 6:30 p.m. and continuing each evening during the 12-day run of the fair, a flag retreat ceremony will be held at Slade Park. Each ceremony will be presented by Made In America stores.
