Catholic Health received more than 900 COVID-19 rapid test kits from Cepheid Inc. last Friday, making it possible for the health system to quickly test and contain the spread of the coronavirus at Father Baker Manor in Orchard Park. In all, Catholic Health performed 600 tests throughout its system in just over one day, increasing total testing within Erie Country by 29%.

Niagara County Public Information Officer Kevin Schuler on Tuesday said, "The Niagara County Department of Health today is sad to report the first COVID-19 related death of a Niagara County resident. The resident was a 58-year-old male with no underlying health conditions."

New York Farm Bureau is requesting immediate help for farmers who are facing serious economic challenges from the COVID-19 pandemic. The recently passed CARES Act provides $9.5 billion in funding for USDA, and NYFB is encouraging that funding to be used for direct payments to farms.

The Western New York COVID-19 Community Response Fund coordinated by the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo, Health Foundation for Western & Central New York, The John R. Oishei Foundation and the United Way of Buffalo & Erie County announced that it has granted $4.5 million to 74 organizations in less than two weeks after the fund was announced.

Niagara County Acting Sheriff Michael J. Filicetti announced a corrections officer employed by the Niagara County Correctional Facility has tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. This individual, who has been off work for the past two weeks after developing symptoms relating to the virus, is recovering at home. This is the first employee with the NCSO diagnosed with COVID-19.

At 11:07 a.m. Saturday, Niagara County Sheriff's Office patrol units were dispatched to the area of 5355 Walmore Road. They investigated a confirmed report of a female driver retrieving a long gun from the bushes and handing it to a male passenger of a black, four-door sedan. Further information indicated the female re-entered the vehicle and traveled southbound toward Saunders Settlement Road.

Amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo on Monday announced all "New York State on PAUSE" functions will be extended for an additional two weeks. The governor also directed schools and nonessential businesses to stay closed for an additional two weeks, through April 29. The state will re-evaluate after this additional two-week period.
