Last Friday, for the first time in more than 20 years, the general public walked through the front doors of the historic Frontier House in Lewiston. The building's first-floor tenant, Fairbanks restaurant, hosted a soft opening for those who helped its proprietors, Daniel Hagen and Jake Strawser, craft their second restaurant. They also operate Billy Club in Buffalo.

This is a busy time of year for the Lewiston Beautification team. You may have seen them planting colorful gardens on Center Street, the waterfront, the Peace Garden, Hennepin Park and the Red Brick School to name a few locations benefitting from members' hard work and green thumbs. They are easy to spot wearing navy blue T-shirts with "Beautification Volunteer" written across the back in white letters.

To commemorate the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, Old Fort Niagara announced plans to construct a replica 18th century Native American dwelling to serve as a Native American Education Center. The site will vividly represent the living conditions for Native Americans at the fort during the Revolution, and serve as a focal point for the Native living history programming.

Production wrapped this week on "Holiday Touchdown: A Bills Love Story," the Hallmark "Countdown to Christmas" movie shot in and centered on Buffalo. Though the film crew was only in town for about two months - first at the holidays and then again the past few weeks - Western New York left a lasting impression.

The Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens' new "Butterfly Experience" opens this weekend and will be open daily from June 7 to Aug. 3. Hundreds of live butterflies have taken flight in their newly renovated tropical orchard.
