Village of Lewiston gets its Just Desserts

In what could only be described as a sight straight out of a Food Network kitchen, The Stone House was filled with delicious desserts of every shape, size, texture and taste on Thursday night. The occasion was a ribbon-cutting for Just Desserts by Aimee - which is kitty-corner to the Lewiston wine bar. Friends and family looked on with awe at the picturesque pastries, precisely piled on serving plates.
Higgins & Kennedy: $10.6 million in new funding for rehab of Ohio Street lift bridge

Congressman Brian Higgins and New York State Sen. Tim Kennedy were joined by community leaders to announce $10.625 million in new funding for renovation to the Ohio Street lift bridge. The recent allocation, through the Federal Highway Administration's National Highway Freight program with matching funds through New York state, is in addition to $5.23 million in previously allocated federal and state transportation funds, providing a total investment of $15.855 million for the Buffalo infrastructure project.
SBA Acting Administrator Pilkerton awards Buffalo's The Foundry with $100,000

U.S. Small Business Administration Acting Administrator Chris Pilkerton visited Buffalo this week to pay a personal visit to The Foundry, the Northampton Street makerspace where education, empowerment and employment of Erie County community members go hand-in-hand with business incubation. Pilkerton was accompanied with SBA Regional Administrator Steve Bulger and Buffalo District Office Director Franklin J. Sciortino during his visit.
Jacobs calls for public hearings on new license plates

Republican New York State Sen. Chris Jacobs is calling for the New York State Senate's Transportation Committee to hold public hearings to determine whether or not the governor and the Department of Motor of Vehicles are justified in requiring motorists to begin purchasing new license plates next year.

It started nine years ago when Jesse Gooch, owner of Painters Plus and a Niagara County legislator, decided to use his business to do some good for the community. Gooch noticed there were several houses in the community that needed an exterior paint job. Painters Plus handled jobs on similar houses and it was like a lightbulb went on. Gooch's business had all the supplies and the know-how to paint any of these houses.

More than two people are killed every day on U.S. roads by impatient and reckless drivers blowing through red lights, according to data analysis performed by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety. The most recent crash data available shows 939 people were killed in red-light-running crashes in 2017 - a 10-year high and a 28% increase since 2012.

Such leaks, occurring after some colorectal surgeries, are difficult to detect early. The consequences are severe: an ostomy bag, sepsis or even death.

AAA's campaign was launched nationally in 1946 to help reduce the number of school-related pedestrian injuries and fatalities. It is now in its 74th year. EPA to provide relief for certain marine diesel engines

The New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) announced the launch of a new educational program to help New Yorkers understand alcohol and drug addiction, including where to find help and services. The program is titled "New Hope, New Life with OASAS," and will help inform New Yorkers about substance use disorders, including the warning signs, resources available, and where to find help. The program is being funded with $500,000 distributed through the federal state opioid response grant.
