The 100 Club of Buffalo Inc. has awarded 20 scholarships totaling $14,000 to area students through its Scholarship of Excellence program. Scholarships ranging from $250 to $2,000 were presented to high school seniors and college students who are children of active first responders, including law enforcement, fire and/or emergency medical personnel, or are active first responders themselves.

The Women's Respite Program will mark 25 years of service at a reception Saturday, Aug. 3, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Stella Niagara in Lewiston. The Respite Program, a nonprofit organization, provides time away to rest and renew for single mothers with low incomes, grandmothers raising their grandchildren, and women with cancer.

The event will begin at 4 p.m. at St. Peter's R.C. Church, where a Mass will be held. It will be followed by a reception at the nearby Barton Hill Hotel & Spa.
