A grand tradition of family-friendly entertainment is about to be revived. Niagara University Theatre's repertory troupe, N.U.R.T., will present a rotating repertoire of free children's stories outdoors in the Village of Lewiston at the Academy Park bandshell from July 18 through Aug. 26. The troupe hasn't performed on a regular basis in Lewiston since it last performed at Artpark in the 1990s.

On the verge of graduating its first class of youth participants, ReNU Niagara, a community outreach program of Niagara University, is now offering its new GreenRoots Leadership Development Program to Niagara Falls residents over the age of 20. The free, eight-week program is made possible by a grant from the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo.

Niagara University theater studies junior Callie Bush, Class of 2012, has been awarded the sixth Tara Laurie Memorial Scholarship to assist with her NU theater program study abroad experience at Anglo-American University in London this summer. She is one of nine theater studies students who will travel to London this summer with Dr. Sharon Watkinson, chair of Niagara's department of theater and fine arts, and other NU students and faculty.

Armand Schultz, a 1981 graduate of Niagara University playing the role of the dad in the touring production of "Billy Elliot: The Musical," returned to his alma mater on Monday with Ryan Kasprzak, the show's dance captain and a popular former contestant on FOX's "So You Think You Can Dance" television series. The duo attended theater classes before holding an afternoon question-and-answer session with students during their day off from the 10-time Tony Award-winning musical, which is on tour in Toronto through Sept. 3.
