At 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 17, Kelsey L. Wright was reported missing by her mother. The 15-year-old was last seen in the Wheatfield/North-Tonawanda area at about 5 p.m. on Monday, March 14. She was wearing a dark-hooded sweatshirt and a pair of jeans.

For the second straight year, the Club Managers Association of America's Student Chapter of the Year resides on Monteagle Ridge. Niagara University's student chapter of the CMAA topped more than 50 other colleges and universities from throughout the country to receive the prestigious annual award at the association's National Conference in Orlando, Fla., on Feb. 25. Niagara's chapter also was presented with the Club of the Future Award during the event.

The Lewiston-Porter School District is facing a 4.2 percent increase in its 2011-12 budget that in normal times would not be a major problem. However with New York state calling for a reduction in state aid to Lew-Port of $2.3 million, the increase will have to be made up within the district. Lew-Port's proposed budget for 2011-12 is $41,779,619, up $1,684,961 from 2010-11.

Jeannine Alsous earned a presidential scholarship, an academic competitiveness grant and other merit-based awards from her efforts as an honors student at Lewiston-Porter High School. To help pay her way through college, she lives at home with her single mother, works between 30 and 40 hours a week, and takes out approximately $5,000 in Stafford Loans.

Niagara University announces Timothy M. Downs, Ph.D. has been appointed vice president of academic affairs at the university following a nationwide search. Downs possesses more than 25 years of experience in higher education and currently serves as the dean of the College of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences at Gannon University, a Catholic university located in Erie, Pa. He will assume his new position at Niagara on June 13.
