For four weeks in July and August, the History Center of Niagara will offer weekly children's programs. Each week has a different historical theme. The programs are open to children ages 7 through 12.

Daemen College's Rosary Hall, recognized for its Italian Renaissance Revival architecture, and designed by one of most prominent Buffalo architects of the early 20th century, will be officially designated a "Historic Landmark" at 3 p.m. July 1.
The college will host a celebration in Rosary Hall in honor of this distinguished designation by the Amherst Historic Preservation Commission. Daemen President Gary A. Olson, Amherst Deputy Supervisor Guy Marlette, commission representatives, and members of the college community are expected to be in attendance.
"We are honored to have Rosary Hall receive 'Historic Landmark' status in Amherst, which has been home to the Daemen campus since it was founded," Olson said.

The Niagara Catholic Jr./Sr. High School community recently celebrated "Green Day" on the school's campus, 520 66th St., Niagara Falls. The event was the brainchild of student and event coordinator Jeana Franjoine, who will be a senior at NC in September.

Lewiston Dance Center students recently took part in the Fairy House Festival a yearly event held at Artpark. The students dressed in their ballet costumes with fairy makeup and fairy wings and performed their ballet dances for onlookers.

New York state's 529 College Saving Program has helped New York residents pay for more than $230 million in college-related expenses in 2014, New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli said this week in recognition of 529 College Savings Day. The investment program, overseen by DiNapoli's office and the Higher Education Services Corp., is designed to help parents save for college and offers tax deductions up to $10,000 annually.

Samantha Tremko lost her mom suddenly when she was just 7 years old.
Her family was just settling down from a family vacation in Florida, making the long drive home to North Tonawanda. After dropping grandparents off at their home, Samantha's mom, Robin, suffered a blood clot to the heart.

With just over 1,300 voters coming out to cast their ballot, the Lewiston Porter School District $41.2 million spending plan was passed. The vote, unofficial and without absentee votes counted, was 926 in favor, and 439 against.

Unofficial results had just been announced that voters approved the $64.6 million N-W budget for 2014-15 by a vote of 2,559 to 1,528, despite an expected 4.78 percent increase in the tax levy (right at the district's tax cap).
