Niagara Falls Water Board accepts state water infrastructure grant

At its regular board meeting on Monday, the Niagara Falls Water Board voted to accept a grant from the NY State Facilities Development Corp. for funding the replacement of the water main along Bollier Avenue in the city from 82nd Street to Military Road pursuant to the New York State Water Infrastructure Improvement Act (WIIA).

Higgins announces completion of new Bailey Bridges

Congressman Brian Higgins marked the opening of the new Bailey Avenue Bridges, crossing Cazenovia Creek and the Buffalo River. The $22 million infrastructure project, which includes over $15 million in federal funding, is the largest public works project currently underway in the City of Buffalo.
Breast density can determine one's risk for breast cancer

A major risk factor for breast cancer, which is relatively unknown to women, is dense breasts. Knowing one's breast density is another part of the ongoing fight that assists in the early detection and prevention of breast cancer. Only one in eight women are aware that their breast density is a risk factor for breast cancer. One in five women are aware that dense breast tissue makes it harder to find cancer on a mammogram or show any changes in the breast.

"Niagara Now" will take place across the U.S. and Canadian border later this month. The event was started by a small group of pastors last year, lead by the Rev. Dale Hiebert of Dwelling Place Church in Niagara Falls, Ontario. This year, the pastors on the Niagara Now team commissioned the Rev. Joel Arcadipane of i61 Church in East Aurora to lead the American side.
Cuomo: Buffalo Harbor State Park transformation is complete

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo on Wednesday announced the transformation of the new Buffalo Harbor State Park, the City of Buffalo's first state park, is now complete. New York purchased the once-neglected property in 2013 and immediately invested $15 million across three phases to remediate the brownfield and transform all 190 acres into a vibrant state park. Today, more than 240,000 people visit the park annually.

Bellreng's has unveiled a pink customer car to transport customers who need a ride while their vehicle is being serviced.

Schumer slams EPA for 'suddenly abandoning radioactive clean-up effort in Niagara County'

U.S. Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer on Monday demanded the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency immediately return to Niagara County to expedite the clean-up of radioactive hotspots in Lewiston and Niagara Falls. Schumer said the EPA recently abandoned cleanup activities at one of the sites without a full explanation to local residents, and said the EPA should return to Niagara County as quickly as possible to immediately resume remaining clean-up efforts.
Another discharge seen on Niagara River

"On Monday, October 9, 2017, a wet weather event - heavy and prolonged rainfall - in Niagara Falls resulted in a discharge/overflow from the NFWB's wastewater system. As with other recent overflow events, this resulted from the volume of flow into the NFWB wastewater system exceeding the system's existing storage and plant processing capacity. NFWB has no way of controlling for color or turbidity with respect to the overflow water during a wet weather event."

Lewiston fire crews are credited with staging a quick response to a structure fire in the village late last month. The Sept. 29 call on the 400 block of Plain Street involved a garage structure fire, fully engulfed in a historical section on the village's west side - an area of well-maintained residences, the nearby Lewiston Historical Museum and numerous businesses around the block on the Center Street strip.
