The 2017 Erie County Poverty Summit will take place this Thursday, from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., at the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center. It will feature a day of presentations and panel discussions focusing on poverty and its effects on a wide range of Erie County residents, as well as ways to promote change across the community.

The Buffalo Sabres on Thursday announced single-game tickets for the 2017-18 regular season will go on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 16. The Sabres also announced tickets for the team's preseason home games will go on sale Wednesday, Aug. 30.

Lake Ontario levels have been dropping rapidly compared to average rates through the months of June and July. The International Lake Ontario-St. Lawrence River Board has been releasing the unprecedented outflow of 10,400 m3/s (367,300 cfs) since June 14 and, despite wet conditions, Lake Ontario levels have fallen 30 cm (12 in.) since peaking in late May.

Internationally renowned percussionist Cyro Baptista collaborated with Buffalo-based sculptor Shasti O'Leary Soudant and students from the University at Buffalo to create a colorful, interactive work called "Beat Blossom." Both were on hand to officially debut the sound-generating instrument on Sunday at Artpark in Lewiston. A dedication ceremony and concert took place inside the Percussion Garden.

Renovations to the 10th Street parking garage on Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center's downtown campus will resume Monday. Work will begin on the uppermost level and proceed downward one level at a time. As each level is completed, parking spaces that have been temporarily restricted from use will be returned to service.

Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz has appointed William Geary Jr. as Erie County commissioner of the Department of Public Works. Geary, who had been serving as deputy commissioner of the Department in the Highways Division since October 2012, replaces Charles Sickler. Sickler had been serving as interim commissioner of the Public Works Department following the retirement of John Loffredo in January.
