The Buffalo Sabres on Monday announced General Manager Jason Botterill hired Randy Sexton and Steve Greeley to serve as the team's assistant general managers. Sexton will also serve as general manager of the Rochester Americans (AHL).

Art Eberhart, Evelyn Harris, Norma Higgs and Merrell Lane (posthumously) will become the first inductees of the Niagara Falls Volunteer Hall of Fame during a July 24 ceremony at Niagara Falls City Hall. A reception is scheduled for 4 p.m., followed by the induction ceremony during the Niagara Falls City Council session, which begins at 5 p.m.

Local nonprofit organizations are encouraged to submit work projects in need of volunteer labor for the 25th annual United Way Day of Caring, to be held Aug. 16. The largest one-day volunteer event in Western New York is expected to draw thousands of volunteers in celebration of the organization's 100th anniversary and as a way to assist area agencies.

At its weekly conference call on Thursday, the International Lake Ontario - St. Lawrence River Board decided to maintain the high outflows from Lake Ontario at 10,200 m3/s (360,200 cfs) again for at least another week to address high water levels and associated impacts throughout the system. This high outflow has been continuing since May 23 in order to provide relief to residents along the shorelines of Lake Ontario while not exacerbating the impacts to shoreline residents downstream.
