Domestic Violence Tribute Garden nears completion

The Erie County Commission on the Status of Women ("ECCSW") and the Erie County Department of Parks, Recreation and Forestry ("Parks"), in conjunction with local domestic violence agencies and service providers, have announced the official opening of the Domestic Violence Tribute Garden at Isle View Park will take place with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday, Sept. 26.
Erie County social services to launch SNAP call center

Erie County Department of Social Services Commissioner Al Dirschberger has announced the launch of a new supplemental nutrition assistance program ("SNAP") call center designed to help families on nutrition assistance to resolve service issues more quickly. Residents are now directed to call 716-858-7239 to get quick assistance with their SNAP case.
Office of Mental Health receives $1.4 million grant for suicide prevention services in Western New York

The New York State Office of Mental Health announced Thursday it received a $1.41 million grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to reduce suicide in Western New York.
Cuomo announces nearly 10-percent increase in summer state park and campground attendance

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo announced New York state parks, historic sites and campgrounds hosted another successful season, with nearly 38.6 million estimated visits from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. The state park system saw a 9.6-percent increase in attendance from the same summer period in 2014.

State Sen. Marc Panepinto expressed concern in the wake of NRG Energy's announcement Tuesday that it will shutter the Huntley Station power plant early next year. Located in the Town of Tonawanda, the plant employs 79 and provides millions in PILOT payments to the Kenmore-Tonawanda School District, Town of Tonawanda and Erie County.
