Niagara Falls Boys & Girls Club 36th annual auction & Hall of Fame awards set for Saturday

On Saturday, May 19, the Niagara Falls Boys & Girls Club will host its 36th annual dinner auction at the Niagara Falls Conference & Event Center. This event serves as the major fundraiser for the club and will be attended by more than 350 professionals and supporters.
Construction begins on new Seneca Babcock Community Center

The Nancy Price Memorial 5K Run will be held Saturday, May 12, starting at the Youngstown Firehall, 625 Third St. The race route will take runners through the village and along the river walking path at Fort Niagara State Park, ultimately ending back at the Youngstown Fire Department. DEC announces May 5 opening of fishing season for warmwater fish

Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Basil Seggos announced May 5 marks the opening of the fishing season for many of New York's most popular sportfish, including walleye, northern pike, pickerel and tiger muskellunge. Fishing for these species, especially walleye and pike, can be especially good in cooler periods of early spring, and anglers are encouraged to take advantage of the fishing opportunities across the state.

Higgins announces House approval of 5-year FAA reauthorization

Schneiderman issues urgent alert warning New Yorkers of telephone scam targeting Chinese-American community

Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman issued an urgent consumer alert, notifying New Yorkers of a new telephone scam in which consumers receive calls from potential fraudsters impersonating the Chinese Consulate to demand payment in exchange for a package or to prevent punishment from the consulate office. New Yorkers who receive such calls should immediately contact the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) at 1-877-FTC-HELP.

On Wednesday, Mayor Paul A. Dyster announced the City of Niagara Falls received $300,000 in grant funding toward recently completed cleanup efforts at 3625 Highland Ave., through National Grid's Economic Development program. The funds were used to assist to redevelopment a 5.5-acre site in a New York state-designated Brownfield Opportunity Area in the Highland Avenue corridor.

Ten babies perished in unsafe sleep conditions in Niagara County during the past five years - three of them in 2017 alone. Most were sleeping on an unsafe surface such as an adult bed, sofa or chair, and most were sleeping with at least one other person. All were under 6 months of age; eight were less than 3 months old.

In the largest federally funded non-drug clinical trial for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), patients with the most severe and persistent symptoms achieved robust and sustained relief by learning to control symptoms with minimal clinician contact. Led by University at Buffalo researchers in collaboration with colleagues at New York University and Northwestern University, the study was published online before print in Gastroenterology.
