Niagara County Youth Bureau accepting applications for summer food service program

The Niagara County Youth Bureau will sponsor the 2018 summer food service program (SFSP). This program ensures children who are economically disadvantaged continue to receive nutritious meals during summer vacation. Meals are comparable to the National School Breakfast and National School Lunch Programs (NSBP and NSLP, respectively) throughout the school year.

Monday's national average price for a gallon of gasoline is $2.61, which is up 6 cents compared to one week ago. One year ago, the price was $2.28. The New York state average is $2.73, which is up 4 cents from last week. A year ago, the state average was $2.42.
'Gowns for Prom' drive nets hundreds of dresses

The USA Niagara Development Corp. (USAN) board of directors met Wednesday and approved the acquisition of a property in Niagara Falls with "spectacular" views of the rapids and easy access to downtown and the Niagara Falls State Park. The vacant parcel, at 101 Buffalo Ave., will be purchased for $1,100,000 utilizing Buffalo Billion II funds for the purpose of issuing a request for proposals (RFP) to develop the 1.20-acre site.

Outflows from Lake Ontario break February record, water levels gradually improving

The average Lake Ontario outflow during the month of February was the highest in recorded history. Historical records start in 1900 and include outflows that occurred both prior to and since the beginning of regulation in 1960. A stable ice cover in the St. Lawrence River allowed Plan 2014 to increase outflow under the ice, and, as a result, Lake Ontario levels have fallen below those recorded at this time in 2017.

AAA: Costly spring gas price spike coming to a pump near you

Motorists are paying about a quarter more per gallon of gasoline than they did one year ago. While pump prices have dipped in recent weeks, this is not a trend that is expected to continue. AAA forecasts the national gas price average will be as much as $2.70 per gallon this spring - a pump price Americans have not paid since summer of 2015, when prices hit $2.81.
