On Sept. 27 - proclaimed "National Museum Day Live!" in Buffalo by Mayor Byron Brown - museums and cultural institutions across Western New York welcomed more than 2,500 visitors into their spaces, free of charge, as a part of Smithsonian Magazine's 10th annual "Museum Day Live!" initiative.

The third annual Michelle's Memorial 5K will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, in Middleport. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. at the Middleport Firehall, and the starting line will be close by on Mill Street. The course will be along the scenic Erie Canal.

With a renewed community impact strategy in place, United Way of Greater Niagara announced its "Zero donation" campaign goal for the 2014 community care campaign. Instead, leaders announced an "investment" campaign goal of $1.275 million, the organization's largest fundraising effort.
